On Cloudvista Features

Comfort and Fit

Constructed with On’s innovative Helion™ superfoam and CloudTec® technology, the Cloudvista is a lightweight and responsive, versatile trail-running shoe that is not only comfortable and practical but also extremely stylish and sleek-looking! Like other On shoes, the fit and security of this shoe are top notch with a great balance between stability and comfort. This shoe performs best on dirt paths, moderately technical trails, and gravel roads. While the cushioning is not as extensive as other On shoes, the Cloudvista provides a low-to-the-ground feel and a good blend of cushioning, traction, and protection.

Traction

This versatile trail-running shoe is well-balanced with a solid outsole that offers great grip and traction allowing it to perform extremely well uphill. The mid-level cushioning gives great landing and take-off on hard surfaces like packed trails, gravel roads, dirt, and concrete. The multi-directional lugs and flex grooves of the outsole provide great traction and flexibility. However, there’s not much depth to the lugs and combined with a lightweight upper, runners report a lack of stability when going downhill or moving laterally. The traction is also reduced on wet and muddier surfaces.

Durability

While the shoe is designed with high-quality materials and technology, some runners report little to moderate wear and tear after a few months and quicker deterioration if they are worn more often. Some customers have also stated that the materials began to disintegrate after a few days of walking and running on trails.

Support

The recycled, polyester mesh upper, gusseted tongue, and moderately rigid heel counter deliver a locked-down feeling with stability and great support. However, the fine mesh upper doesn’t fully support the feet when running fast downhill and on wet and muddy surfaces.

Protection

The Cloudvista is not great for long, rugged mountain trails or technical trails. While there are protective overlay elements, runners report a lack of optimal protection for extended runs of extremely tough and technical terrains. Fortunately, this shoe delivers a smooth ride for beginner and intermediate hikers and runners on mild and moderate terrains.

Breathability

The reinforced and recycled mesh upper provides great breathability and flexibility making this a great shoe for various outdoor conditions.

Style

One of the features that customers love most about the Cloudvista is how stylish and sleek it is! While it’s mostly worn for trail running, many customers love walking and wearing them during light, outdoor activities. Runners also praise the color and pattern options as it complements their activewear outfits!

Flexibility and Responsiveness

Designed with Helion™ superfoam, CloudTec® technology, and its advanced Speedboard, the Cloudvista is often praised for how responsive, lightweight, and flexible it is for a trail running shoe. Packed with comfort in every step, the flexibility and responsiveness allow the runner to propel forward with power in each stride.

On Cloudvista Construction

Outsole

The Missiongrip™ outsole features low-profile, multidirectional lugs separated by flex grooves and channels to provide traction and flexibility preventing slides on muddy dirt trails. While the durable and sticky rubber outsole is meant to provide great traction, runners state that this shoe is not meant for deep mud or more technical trails as mud and dirt will collect in the grooves and reduce traction over time.

Midsole

The Helion™ superfoam, which is incorporated into many of the On shoes, delivers a good amount of cushioning while being extremely responsive. The Cloudtec pods allow for a soft-cushioned landing with an explosive barefoot-style take-off. However, some runners report discomfort with being able to feel the Speedboard in the midsole, especially on firm and hard surfaces due to its rock plate underfoot.

Upper

The upper is made of 70% recycled polyester, a perforated tongue, a solid toe cap, and a TPU mudguard, which makes it very breathable and durable while allowing the toes to expand. It also provides great security across the midfoot and heel. However, some runners report that the upper does not securely hug the foot and lock it in place and therefore, causes sliding when running fast downhill on steep trails.

Lacing System

The Cloudvista uses thinner straps with the addition of an elastic strap to tuck in the laces reducing the chances of the laces coming undone while providing a greater sense of security while running. Although some runners feel that the laces may be too thin, others report that they’re convenient and holds the shoe well.

Conclusion

On’s Cloudvista is a lightweight, comfortable, and versatile trail running shoe that will give you a close-to-the-ground feeling with an extremely responsive speedboard for powerful take-offs and smooth landings! Although this door to trail shoe may not perform as well on more technical terrains, many runners praise the Cloudvista as a perfect fit for beginner and intermediate runners on surfaces like packed trails, gravel roads, dirt, and concrete. One of the best features of this shoe is that it’s extremely stylish and sleek, making it a great shoe for casual walking and hiking as well.
