The Cloudrunner fits like a daily trainer that is extremely comfortable to wear on long, easy, recovery runs or a workout at the gym. It can also double up as a great lifestyle shoe for those who are on their feet for long periods. Designed with CloudTec® advanced cushioning technology, this shoe features plush, premium materials that provide great support around the foot. The toe box is a little wider than average, allowing the toes to comfortably splay and expand through extended runs and workouts. Using Zero-gravity foam, the lightest foam of On’s technology, this shoe creates a comfortable and secure fit while delivering soft landings and powerful take-offs for a smooth ride.
The multi-directional tread patterns of the outsole provides great traction for increased control, especially in wet conditions. Runners report excellent grip on light dry trails and wet asphalt making it a great road shoe for beginner to intermediate runners.
Constructed with high-quality materials and recycled polyester like other On shoes, the Cloudrunner is quite durable and can go the distance. However, some runners report early signs of wear and tear after 3-6 months, especially on the fabric of the upper. While this is an extremely comfortable shoe, many runners are dissatisfied with its durability.
Thanks to the wider outsole under the forefoot in addition to the plush cushioning and cradling in the midsole, this shoe provides great support and stability for long-distance, recovery runs. It also has a sock-like upper that securely snugs the foot offering support for every stride.
The slightly thicker mesh upper, gusseted tongue, and heel collar provide good protection from rocks and other debris while the extra cushioning and structure of the outsole protects the underfoot from rough surfaces.
Runners praise the excellent breathability of the Cloudrunner despite a thicker mesh upper and padded tongue. The insole is also removable which allows extra breathability if needed while remaining highly cushioned and comfortable as daily trainers. This shoe will not only provide comfort and protection but will also keep the feet cool in warmer temperatures, especially on extended runs.
One of the key features that runners love the most about the Cloudrunner is how stylish it is. It can double up as a lifestyle shoe, and like other On shoes, has great aesthetics, color, and design. The newly added color and pattern options are also a bonus! With this shoe, runners can easily transition from a long workout to a casual walk around town while looking great with any outfit!
On’s signature CloudTec® cushioning and Speedboard technology allow for this shoe to be flexible and extremely responsive. Featuring individual cloud pods that effectively absorb shock in all directions and a springy speedboard in the midsole, runners can feel great energy return with each stride propelling the foot forward.
The CloudTec® rubber outsole includes multi-directional tread patterns across the forefoot, mid, and heel areas that increase control and grip, especially in wet conditions. There is slightly thicker coverage in the forefoot and heel to absorb shock and impact, working synergistically with the other components to provide soft landings and powerful take-offs. While the gully at the bottom of the shoe is shallow, runners report smooth rides without picking up any gravel or small stones.
Like other parts of the Cloudrunner, the CloudTec® midsole and Zero-Gravity foam provides great cushioning and responsiveness along with stability and protection making this a great daily trainer and recovery shoe for logging miles. While some runners report dullness and stiffness in the midsole with reduced flexibility, others state that the plushy midsole can be felt from the heel to the forefoot with no issues.
The upper is made of recycled materials with a dual-layered mesh, a softer one on the inside and a more durable material on the outside for protection. Despite having extra padding and a thicker tongue, the Cloudrunner remains comfortable and breathable, especially for extended runs in warmer weather. There are also areas in the upper that are made with strips of ‘no-sew foil’ which will firmly hold fabrics together without the possibility of edges fraying. However, some runners report wear and tear of the upper fabric, especially towards the forefoot after using for 3-6 months.
The Cloudrunner has a simple lacing system that stretches and expands during hot temperatures which increases breathability while providing a more comfortable and secure fit.
On has done an excellent job of creating a well-cushioned, supportive, and versatile daily trainer for beginner to intermediate runners. Designed with On’s innovative technology, the Cloudrunner is highly praised as an easy recovery shoe that runners turn to when training for marathons. The purposeful construction of the shoe provides great protection and traction on the exterior while delivering extreme comfort and padding across the foot, making it a great shoe for extended runs. The best part is how great it looks when worn as a casual, lifestyle shoe that’s perfect for any occasion!
